Plant Description

Pickerel Rush (Pontederia Cordata)  sports attractive, large, glossy, green leaves that are heart shaped-- along with blue spike flowers that are held above the foliage. Pickel Rush can grow 2 - 3 feet tall and does best in full sun. Pickerel Rush has a clumping habitat and spreads by rhizome. Plant in large, submerged containers (with up to eight inches of water above the roots) in your pond to avoid unwanted spreading. Pickerel Rush is very easy to grow and hardy in zones 3 - 10

Plant your Pickerel Rush in large containers (14 inches in diameter or larger) or plant directly into the soil in natural bottom ponds with up to eight inches of water above the roots

Pickerel Rush is great for pond filtration as it takes up additional nutrients in the water helping to eliminate algae. Pickerel Rush is great for use in biofilters as well.
